23 Things to Do at 23

A few days ago, I turned 23. Every year, I become less and less excited for my birthday because, every year, I'm always left with that sinking feeling that I haven't achieved enough. So I've decided to set myself some goals to achieve this year- some big, some small. Hopefully, by putting them on the internet, I'll feel more motivated to commit to them (fingers crossed).

1. Become a morning person // I've never been an early riser- when I was in my teens I would quite happily sleep in until 1 in the afternoon. What can I say? I hate mornings and love my bed. But I would love to be one of those super-productive people who gets up earlier than the sun and has gone for a run, showered, drank a green juice, cleaned the house and cured cancer by 7 o' clock. Wish me luck on that one...

3. Change my eating habits for the better // Probably pretty self-explanatory but current diet = too much sugar, not enough green stuff.

4. Get a full-time job // I'm currently only working part-time, and feel like I've been on the job hunt for a century. I'm determined that this will be the year I find a steady job.

5. Go on a weekend away with my partner // A few days away in London is already planned, can't wait!

6. Learn to use my DSLR properly // Seriously, I've had this damn camera for 5 years now and I still can't remember what that f-stop number means.

7. Declutter my flat // Maybe it's all that minimalism stuff going around, but I currently feel my place is too full of stuff I don't really want or need. Life-changing magic- come at me.

8. Read my way through the pile of unread books I've accumulated over the last year // For someone who doesn't read that much, I've been buying an awful lot of books. When I say a pile of unread books, I mean a fairly sizable shelf. Time to get on it.

9. Do more, procrastinate less // I confess, I am the worst when it comes to procrastination. I say I'm going to be super productive but then there's a new episode of Pretty Little Liars or a Buzzfeed quiz because, yes, I ABSOLUTELY need to know what kind of pizza I am based on my favourite colour, and suddenly the whole day is gone. New life motto: get. shit. done.

10. Learn to stop worrying as much as I do // I worry far too much about things that aren't worth worrying about. It's exhausting.

11. Go outside more // Because I do my university work from home and work on weekends, I can often go days without leaving my flat. It would be good to get more fresh air.

12. Improve my fitness // My eternal struggle. My fitness is currently an atrocious state. I can't touch my toes, I can barely lift my laptop and, if a zombie apocalypse happens, they will catch me and I will die. Quickly.

13. Make friends and have a social life // This makes me sound like a loser, doesn't it? I've never really made friends all that easily, so I don't have very many, and it would be great to have some more friends that I have stuff in common with. There's only so much chatter about lipstick that my boyfriend can take...

14. Get back into writing  // Specifically, creative writing. I used to love writing stories, even dabbling in some (slightly embarrassing) fanfiction in my teens. I haven't done it in so long, I feel like I've totally lost that creative streak and I want to try and find it again.

15. Learn a new skill // Slightly unspecific, as I'm not 100% sure what I want to learn yet, but I want to do something new.

16. Volunteer for a charity // Ideally, something relating to counselling or mental health as that's what I want to do after my degree.

17. Drink a glass of water every morning // I feel like I'm never as hydrated as I should be. Plus, it might help with waking myself up in the morning, and I need all the help I can get there.

18. Invest in better quality clothing // For the likes of Viviannadoesmakeup and Estee Lalonde, this would mean investing in designer pieces that will last for years. For me, this basically just means stop buying everything from Primark. Especially handbags (because seriously, I've gone through 3 in the last 6 months).

19. Up my make-up skills // For someone who claims to know a fair amount about make-up, there's a lot of things I'm still pretty useless at. Winged eyeliner, I will conquer you.

20. Do more things that take me out of my comfort zone // I'm very much a 'play it safe' kind of person, I never take risks. If something makes me uncomfortable, I tend to steer clear. But I could be letting myself miss out on amazing experiences. When I'm old, I want to have stories to tell.

21. Learn to drive // Good experience for me, very useful skill to have, blah blah blah... I'm 23, I need to learn to bloody drive already.

22. Finally start making Youtube videos // I've said I wanted to do this many, many times. I've tried once or twice before (you might still be able to find evidence of that in some dark corner of the internet). Time to find the confidence to do it for real this time.

23. Write on this blog more // No more sporadic posting, I swear. I'm not going to set a schedule (we know I'll never stick to it) but I will endeavour to post on here as often as I can.

2. Learn to count to 23 without missing the number 2. Oops.
