Hello, 2017! It's a brand new year which can only mean a
fresh start. A blank slate. The chance to start being super productive and
taking life by the...
Wait, what do you mean 'It's March'?
Yes, okay. It's been a while. I am ashamed of myself and you
have permission to slap me on the back of the hand. Moving swiftly on.
I'm still getting back into the swing of things, so let's
keep this simple. This is an outfit that I wore last week when I went out to
the cinema with my boyfriend. I feel this is a totally appropriate level of
dressiness for going to see the Lego Batman Movie, don't you? (Yes, I went to
see Lego Batman. No, my boyfriend did not make me. No, I am not actually a
child trapped in the body of the 24 year-old. Yes, I am a gigantic nerd and I.
regret. nothing.)
I found this skirt on Boohoo a few weeks back and immediately fell in love with it. I'd had my eagle eyes out for a metallic midi skirt- specifically one with a zip fastening, because elastic waistbands are NOT the one (hello, gargantuan hips, nice to see you). This one was a mere £14 and fit the bill rather nicely. I paired it with some simple ankle boots, my trusty leather jacket, and this slogan jumper from Matalan that I've been wearing almost constantly since I got it.
Despite my best efforts to dress things down, I was still a
tad overdressed for the occasion. Compared to other fashion bloggers, this
might be a fairly standard outfit. But I don't live in London, where it's
normal to prance around in metallic skirts and ankle boots. I live in Glasgow: this
is like wearing a fucking ball gown.
I have always loved
dressing up and, even as a child, would do so whether the occasion called for
it or not. I distinctly recall once wanting to go to church wearing an
adorable, but rather formal, pink dress that had once been worn to my cousin's
wedding. #overdressed.
As well as generally being slightly too formal a piece of
clothing for the likes of Cineworld, this skirt also feels somewhat festive to
me. This is something I would wear to a Christmas party with a nice top and
heels (and believe you me, I fully intend to come December). Something about it
doesn't really seem seasonally appropriate. But screw it. I like it, I want to
wear it now and I'm not about to let it hang in my wardrobe unloved because
it's 'too dressy' or 'too festive'.
